Although there may be a sign of decay on your x-ray or by direct observation, it may take awhile before you really feel any pain because of the structure of the tooth. If you wait too long and the decay progresses, you may require a more extensive filling, or even a crown or a root canal if the tooth becomes infected. It's best not to wait until you experience pain.
