| Pit and Fissure Sealant |
Your child's teeth have two different types of surfaces. First, the SMOOTHS SIDES of teeth. Second, the ROUGH CHEWING SURFACES of back teeth, called occlusal surfaces.
On the SMOOTH SURFACES of teeth, bacteria that cause decay have have few easy hiding places. With proper brushing and flossing, your child can keep them clean. Fluorides also give their best protecton on smooth surfaces. Fluorides in drinking water, in toothpaste and applies by the dental team render the teeth less susceptible to decay.
The ROUGH CHEWING SURFACES of back teeth usually have deep "valleys" which dentists call pits and fissures. Deep in these crevices, bacteria and tiny food particles find a snug harbor. The tooth brush can't reach them. Research has shown that the full effect of fluorides cannot be achieved in these areas. But SEALANT can provide the missing protection on chewing surfaces.
Application of sealants is simple. It doesn't involve drilling. The treatment is quick and painless, and prevent many cavities. It will help your child to happily accept proper, regular dental care and help preserve dental health for a lifetime!!!
